The Candida diet is a pre-formed menu that is not really formulated to help people lose weight but to battle the overgrowth of Candida.
About CandidaCandida is yeast that resides in the body’s digestive tract and vagina. The Candida levels are kept in check by the immune system and probiotic bacteria in the body. But there are times when the probiotic bacteria are killed by antibiotics or the immune system becomes weak leading to the overgrowth of Candida. The overgrowth can lead to local infections, skin infections, oral thrush, vaginal yeast infections and a serious medical condition called systematic candidiasis.
The best way to prevent this is to follow a well formed diet that would stop the growth of Candida. It just so happens that this diet is very effective when it comes to weight loss as well.
How it worksThe aim of this diet is to deprive the Candida yeast of its food sources. Candida lives on carbohydrates and sugar and when it does not have food it can not reproduce. This is a good thing since the Candida makes you crave for sugar and carbohydrates and this craving can be usually intense.
Aside from that, you also become healthier through the Candida diet due to the fact that once the Candida is reduced in your body the immune system is able to function properly making the body heal itself faster and protect itself better.
Remember, in order to make the Candida diet a success you are not supposed to consume sugar in any form. Glucose, fructose, lactose and sucrose must be kept to a minimum or better yet must be avoided. The foods that you should be avoiding include white flour, sugar, honey, syrup, cheese, dried fruits, muesli, fruit juices, cereal, alcohol, vinegar and anything that contains yeasts or mold in them.
Major portions of your diet plan would include vegetables, live yogurt cultures, green algae, and non glutinous grains like rice, oat bran and rice bran, nuts, seeds and oils, and protein foods like chicken eggs, fish and beef.
