Crash Diet | Risks and Benefits



Crash diet is to lose weight drastically up to three kilograms during the first three days of the diet. But you have to take note that what were lost during the three day diet are fats. It is more of a loss of some water in your body. A lot of men and women are into crash diets every year hoping that they will lose weight in a short period of time. But health care professionals labeled this type of diet as a dangerous way of losing wait.

This type of diet entails more harm than good to the human body. Here are some of its disadvantages:

  • It deprives the person to have to right nutrients and calories that he/she needs for good and healthy living. There is always a misconception to this. People who are into dieting think calories as a negative factor of the body. But little did they know that people really need certain amount of calories in the body to maintain the body functions like breathing.
  • If you are into this diet, you are more likely to experience dizziness, headaches, and irritability. These are symptoms related to low caloric intake of the body. You will also have gas pains but others may gain more weight instead of losing.
  • With continued crash diet, a person may have deficiencies in their vital nutrients and his/her organs may show signs of damages. These damages are practically true in the kidneys and liver. Heart attack and stoke is also possible to happen. Because of this diet, a person may also burn his/her muscle and other important tissues of the body. Any person who is in this diet may put his/her self at the possibility of having osteoporosis.
  • This can also cause mental problems. This can cause confuse and destroy your mood. You become more irritable, short-tempered, and depressed than you are used to be. This can also lead to eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia.
  • Having nutritional deficiency will also take place in this type of diet. People doing this diet are risking their health for iron deficiency anemia, potassium and sodium deficiency, and vitamin B12 deficiency.

Despite the harmful effects of a crash diet, there are still ways for this diet to work effectively.

  • Psychologically, think positive. Find and feel the joy in hunger. When you were younger, you do not think that food matters a lot just like your toys.
  • Make this diet as a lifestyle change. You can replace your chocolates, cakes, and pizzas with fresh fruits and vegetables. Try to replace the unhealthy foods with healthy ones.
  • Always remember the hunger week. Ask a friend or any close buddy to keep you on track if you are almost giving up. Try to ask their help and serve them as your moderator.
  • Since a lot of people are in big shape, yet they are unhealthy, so many types of diets are introduced in the market. And most of them are really amazed of how fast they are to loose weight. Just one piece of advice – choose the type of diet that is suitable and healthy for you.
