Gout Diet

The gout diet is a medically formed diet program that is made to reduce the symptoms of gout, which is a painful condition where the uric acid causes the extremities to be tender and makes the affected parts painful to touch and function. The gout is a form of arthritis that usually occurs in the toes or feet.

How it WorksIf you have gout then it is likely that your diet is the culprit. This is because uric acid is produced from the breakdown of purines. Purine is a chemical that is found in some foods which forms uric acid once these foods are broken down in the body during digestion.

The gout diet prescribes users to avoid foods that stimulate the production of uric acid and some of this include alcohol, gravy, sardines, anchovies, scallops, legumes, bacon, beef, pork, lamb and organ meats like liver, kidney and brain. It is believed that by eliminating these foods in one’s normal diet then there will be lesser symptoms of gout.

Foods that are safe to eat include but are not limited to green vegetables, fruits and fruit juices, tomatoes, breads, cereals that are not whole grain, butter, milk, cheese, eggs, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, tea, peanut butter and nuts.

The diet also recommends that the user drinks at least 8 glasses of water per day and that the user must get a lot of exercise. Low fat yogurt and skimmed milk can also help lower your risk of gout.

The gout diet is not really designed to lose weight although it helps users to lose weight especially the overweight ones since losing weight will help lessen the stress on the extremities. When a prescription pull is not prescribed, gout are more likely to be given. In most circumstances, most patients prefer to ask for a supplement or pain killer instead due to the strict rules of the diet.
