Liquid Diet | The Pros and Cons
When talking about liquid diets, it can be done two ways. First, it can be a partial meal replacement. This means that some of your food intake is replaced with a liquid. For example, instead of taking your snacks with sandwiches, you can have a glass of tea. And the second, it can be all fluid consumption. No food intake β all fluids.
This type of diet is available in programs like over the counter products or do-it-yourself dieting. The over the counter products are those that suggest slimming effects. They can be made from fruit extracts or from herbs and other ornamental plants. The do-it-yourself dieting means that, you are responsible for your liquid intake with no specific amount. No prescriptions needed. You can even take any liquid products as long as it is not acidic, too sweet, or made with a lot of preservatives.
But when you go on liquid diets, the most common question that is posted is: βIs it really as effective as the other forms of diet?β Well, experts say that this diet can reduce your number of calories. If you eat low calories, and then burn it, and there you can now lose weight, though this is short-lived.
Some of the liquid diets can have a better effect than other types of diets. Researchers found out that this kind of diet contains food and liquids that can help obese, fat, and overweight people to control and limit the amount of calorie in each liquid meal they take.
Another benefit that you can wet with this diet is that it can detoxify and clean the impurities that are found in the body. Though this is a claim but it has not been proven yet, but still this can happen. This is even the type of diet where both the food and the liquid are found in one diet.
However there are also disadvantages in this type of diet. One is that it radically reduce the calories you consume, thus, your metabolism slows down to conserve energy. It means the diet is over. The dieter can now go back to his/her regular diet. But take note, any weight that was lost is gained quickly after the diet.
It has side effects. Among the side effects include anemia, dizziness, muscle cramps, constipation, and for women, menstrual abnormality.
This kind of diet does not contain healthy balance nutrients such as fiber, minerals, protein, and vitamins. Harmful consequences are possible to happen in this diet like gall stones and cardiac irregularities.
But as a dieter, you have a choice. You can decide what health diet to take because you now your body. If you cannot endure a certain diet, you can always switch to the other diet plans. It is important that you are comfortable with your diet to avoid complications and health risks.
But it is still best to ask your dietician about the appropriate diet that you should follow. If you want to do it all by yourself, you can start is off by eating fruits and vegetables. Good health starts with a good food intake.
