Scarsdale Diet | Take Care of Your Heart
The Scarsdale diet is a rapid weight loss program that is classified as a very low calorie diet. It is known as one of the oldest low carbohydrate diets that is still being followed up to the present. The Scarsdale diet started out as a famous book written by Dr. Herman Tarnower in 1978 and the book is still in print as of the year 2007. Dr. Tarnower ran a clinic in the town of Scarsdale, New York and created diet plans for his overweight patients and those who had problems with their hearts. This diet was reported to be the rage in France during the early 2000s and is still a huge book seller. Dr. Tarnower specialized in treating obesity and has combined the phenomenon of ketosis and its ability to bring about weight loss. Although ketosis is generally a bad thing, he was able to successfully design an MD food program that will cause ketosis without causing much harm or damage to his patients. How it WorksThe Scarsdale has a nutrient ratio that contains 43% protein, 34.5% carbohydrates and 22.5% fat. As you can see, the diet gives you very low calories but after the first phase, the calorie limit is lifted a little. The supposed weight loss with this diet is generally 1 pound per day and some have even reached 20 pounds in 14 days. You have to take note that the purpose of the Scarsdale diet is to give rapid weight loss and is not intended to be a lifetime diet program that you should follow for sensible weight control. Users are supposed to alternate one or two weeks on the diet with two weeks off every other session. Pros - Has a long running history of success
- Menu plan is specific making it very easy to follow
- Rapid weight loss which is good for someone who needs to lose weight fast
Cons- Calorie recommendation is too low making the weight loss process unhealthy

- No maintenance plan to keep the weight once you stop the diet.
- Some users have complained of fatigue and extreme hunger during this diet.
- No exercise plan
- Most of the weight loss is due to water loss so the weight that you lost can be regained quickly the moment that you stop the diet
